Tras un largo tiempo de no publicar en estas páginas, regresamos con los títulos, artistas y canciones que nos han interesado particularmente. Esas melodías o ritmos que han cuajado en nosotros y que, indefectiblemente, vuelven una y otra vez a la actualidad subjetiva. Hoy, en la entrada número 33 encontramos al grupo BONEY M, un auténtico fenómeno de la música disco que arrasó en toda Europa a mediados de la década de los 70 y primeros 80, especialmente. Lanzados desde Alemania por el productor Frank Farian, tuvieron puñados de éxitos bailables en todas las Discos de moda. Curiosamente el tema que les traigo no es de esa índole, es un precioso tema romántico y suave que estaba incluído en su álbum de 1984 "Ten Thousand Lightyears" que se titula "Somewhere in the World". Es una canción que envuelve en una atmósfera cadenciosa y con arreglos melódicos muy buenos, dando una cierta sensación de melancolía o de un mirar atrás. Esa es la sensación que produjo en mí. IVA ZANICCHI "Un fiume amaro" 1970 La música de Theodorakis nos lleva a su Grecia natal con esos sonidos tan mediterráneos y embriagadores. Ella, una de las grandes voces de Italia es IVA ZANICCHI. La canción data de 1970 y representa un muy buen éxito de la cantante. Primera canción en ese idioma que traemos a este Blog musical. T. REX "Get it on" 1971 El malogrado MARC BOLAN fundó en 1967 una banda de rock llamada Tyrannosurus Rex y, bajo este nombre grabaron hasta cuatro álbumes, hasta que se convirtieron en el nombre mundialmente conocido, abreviado, de T. REX. El grupo londinense es pionero en lo que se llamó Glam Rock, que, posteriormente influiría en muchos artistas, y con el cual triunfarían en medio mundo. La canción que traemos es est "Get it on", que, debo confesar, con los años me gusta aún mucho más. Era el año 1971, y estaba en el Lp "Electric Warrior", posteriormente en sencillo y gran éxito mundial. Marc Bolan fallecería en accidente de tráfico en 1977. LA LETRA

THE COWSILLS "The Rain, The Park & other Things" MGM (1966) Deliciosa melodía con unas voces combinadas a la perfección que hacen que esta canción se convierta en un tema de culto. Ellos son Cowsills, una banda norteamericana de Newport que hacían el llamado pop chicle. Embriagadora sincronía que hacen que viajes a otra dimensión y otro tiempo. The Sweet era una banda inglesa muy destacada del pop-rock de la década de los 70, abanderados del llamado "glam rock" que empezaron a funcionar como profesionales en 1968 hasta el 1982. Tres años de silencio y un deseo irrefrenable de volver a los escenarios hicieron que, de nuevo, se pusieran sus llamativos trajes para continuar su etapa musical hasta hoy en día. Temas de puro rock, o incursiones muy comerciales en sus comienzos, con ese prototipo de vestuario, maquillaje y plataformas tan típico de esta época. El tema que siempre me gustó especialmente de ellos es este "The Ballroom Blitz" que fué número 1 en varios Países en 1973. El extraordinario guitarrista y compositor CARLOS SANTANA es una figura de talla mundial. Surgido en los años sesenta desde su México natal, nos trae en forma de maravilloso tema instrumental "Samba pa ti". Lanzado en el álbum ABRAXAS en 1970, esta canción es una de sus piezas más clásicas y aclamadas, que el propio músico compuso. Exito mundial.
ETTA JAMES "At last" (1961) El 20 de Enero de este mismo año 2012, nos dejó la maravillosa Etta James. Nos dejó para siempre, al fallecer a los 74 años de edad, pero, indudablemente nos quedan sus grabaciones y sus canciones con esa impresionante voz que cautiva en el mismo instante en que se escucha. Ella amaba el gospel, y, de hecho, como muchas otras cantantes norteamericanas, empezaron cantando en el coro de su Iglesia. El tema que les traigo es una concesión a la balada más hermosa y suave que grabara en 1961. Se titula "At last", y, para mí es una joya musical, que, no podía dejar de poner en mis páginas. Nació en 1941 fruto de la inspiración de Mark Gordon y Harry Warren y la tocaba y grabó, Glenn Miller, para la película Orchestra Wives (Viudas del jazz). Etta la adaptó veinte años más tarde, que es la versión que les traigo.

EL ALAMO es una muy buena película del género "western" que en 1960 triunfó en el mundo entero. Ganadora de varios Oscars de la Academia de Hollywood. La música es del ruso Dimitri Tiomkin que formaba parte de la fantástica Banda Sonora de la película, y en la que se escuchaba esta maravillosa melodía "The Green Leaves of Summer". Multitud de versiones en diferentes idiomas (incluído el castellano), pululan a lo largo de los años. En España a destacar la del Dúo Dinámico. Pero la mejor, para mí gusto, es la de THE BROTHERS FOUR, un cuarteto folk de Seattle que la graban y catapultan al éxito.

Era su primer álbum y en francés. Estamos hablando de DESIRELESS una artista francesa que había conseguido un bombazo mundial en 1986 con el archipopular "Voyage, Voyage" (que incluiré más adelante). Pero esta mujer, de aspecto rebelde con un característico peinado, tiene una voz que me cautiva en esa melodía rítmica de 1989. La canción que les traigo hoy en mi Blog se titula "John", y Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop (nombre real de Desireless) la borda. Sonido inconfundible de la maravillosa década de los 80, ya en su último año
HEART es el nombre de esta longeva banda de pop rock norteamericana, con proyección internacional desde los años 70, con paradas y regresos, pero de dilatada carrera. Para mi gusto la canción que más me ha impactado de ellos es este "All I wanna do is make love to you" del álbum BRIGADE. Tema que alcanza el nº2 en las listas de Estados Unidos, y que, hoy, es la entrada nº22 de nuestro Blog. Las hermanas Nancy y ann Wilson al frente.

Tenía previsto el publicar esta canción dentro de poco, porque es una de mis grandes canciones preferidas desde que la escuchara de niño, pero no imaginaba que la publicase hoy para homenajear en cierta medida a ESTELA RAVAL, la voz solista de este gran grupo Los 5 Latinos, que acaba de fallecer hace unos días víctima de cáncer de mama. Estela era descendiente de familia italiana y nacida en la Argentina, cantando desde pequeña y formando este grupo en 1957. Hacían versiones en castellano de temas de Platters y otros grandes éxitos anglosajones (con el devenir de los años y fruto del enorme éxito en España, versionarán canciones españoles de diferentes estilos y épocas, así como canciones italianas, entre otras muchas). Mi canción preferida, y creo que emblemática de la voz cristalina de Estela Raval es el "Quiéreme siempre" de 1958. Versión del tema norteamericano "Love me forever" de Lynes y Guthrie que interpretaban FOUR ESQUIRES en 1957. Maravillosa melodía estilo duduá, con respuestas a modo de coro del grupo masculino a las frases de la solista Estela. Paloma San Basilio, entre otras, grabará una excelente versión en los 80. En 1967 el gran Frank Sinatra graba esa maravillosa "Somethin´stupid" junto a su hija Nancy, y, para mí es una deliciosa canción que siempre me ha encantado. Curiosamente no es la versión original, ya que un año antes la había grabado su autor C. Carson Parks, junto a su esposa Gail Foote. Evidentemente la popularidad de los Sinatra, eclipsó al original, llegando al Nº1 de las listas de ventas en Estados Unidos, lugar que ocuparía durante cuatro semanas, y consiguiendo ser disco de Oro.También en el Reino Unido se instala en el privilegiado lugar, así como en otros Países. La canción habla de la amistad y/ o relación afectiva dada por hecho. Chico y chica que van juntos a todas partes, hasta que él comete la tontería de confesarle su amor.

Después de un tiempo de pausa, retomamos las canciones que me llamaron especialmente la atención en un momento dado de mi vida, niño, adolescente, adulto, maduro...
SHARIF DEAN es un cantante del que apenas conozco dos singles, mejor dicho, tres (en uno de ellos incluía la versión española del tema de hoy). Nacido en Casablanca, de madre francesa y padre argelino, y de nombre auténtico Sharafeddinne Kharroubi, contactó con la música en Francia, donde marchó de niño. Tuvo su mejor éxito con este "Do You Love Me?" Nº1 en muchos Países. Estamos en 1973, y él es el compositor de este romántico tema, super, super, bailable, que hizo las delicias de parejas, formales o no, en un verano mallorquín que yo recuerdo especialmente (por supuesto que bailaron el tema en todo el mundo).
EL AUDIO:
DIETER BOHLEN y THOMAS ANDERS formaban este fantástico dúo de música electrónica y de dance llamado MODERN TALKING. Forjados en su Alemania natal, a mediados de los años ochenta, triunfaban en toda Europa haciendo bailar al personal en toda discoteca. Cantaban en inglés y tenía unos arreglos melódicos excepcionales, que, conjugando con un estilo muy sencillo y directo, lograban un éxito tras otro. Apoyados con una imagen algo andrógina del cantante principal, Thomas Anders, y con unos falsetes marca de la casa, Modern Talking, triunfaron asimismo con los videos musicales tan en boga en esos años ochenta que es su etapa más gloriosa (pese a una pronta separación, apenas duraron cuatro años, reaparecieron de nuevo con arreglos actuales de sus canciones de siempre en 1998 hasta el 2003). De vez en cuando sus álbumes son lanzados con nuevos remixes y versiones de sus temas bailables de sonido único y fácilmente reconocible. Pop sencillo, pero muy exitoso. Podía haber elegido entre varios temas, pero me decanto por este de 1986 "Atlantis is calling (S. O. S. for Love) ".

Canción de mi vida número 16 para MADONNA. La reina del pop tiene su espacio también en este Blog personal. El tema elegido es "Frozen", un tema que salió en 1998 en forma de sencillo, y que fué un impactante éxito de la cantante. Extraído del álbum "Ray of Light", el tema es muy diferente a todo lo que hasta esa fecha había grabado la artista. Sonidos electrónicos y orquesta espectacular con solos de violines, para una canción de larga duración que, de nuevo lanzó a la estrella a lo más alto de la cúspide mundial. Arropada asimismo por un video clip brillante, con múltiples efectos, que catapultan aún más el impacto mediático de esta gran canción.

URGE OVERKILL es un grupo de rock alternativo originario de Chicago que, desde mediados de los 80 está en actividad musical. Poco conocido en España, hasta que grabaron la canción "Girl, You´ll be a Woman soon" del gran Neil Diamond, para ser incluída en la banda sonora de la película de Quentin Tarantino "Pulp fiction". Estamos en 1994, y es un auténtico éxito mundial. (como muchos de los grupos de rock, ha tenido alternancias de miembros, con problemas con drogas y desavenencias entre miembros y alguna pelea).
